Rallypoint provides the key components necessary to deliver the Internet-connected HDTV experience, including:

  • The TV widget engine, core technology that includes patent-pending full-screen TV overlays, adjustable transparency, moveable TV widgets using motion sensing remote controls, and TV widget skinning capabilities,
  • The user interface navigation, or Toolbar, that manages the user’s application choices, and
  • TV Apps, in essence the killer applications needed to build a successful Internet-connected HDTV ecosystem.

Market analyst The Yankee Group expects that 50 million Internet-connected HDTVs will be purchased in the US alone - by 2013, outpacing Internet-connected Blu-Ray players (30 million), and digital media adapters (11 million). Extensive studies by Parks Associates and Diffusion Group also point to strong consumer demand for the technology. HDTV makers have responded by transforming their product lines and plan to include technologies and applications that allow consumers to access their favorite web content from their HDTV using just their remote control.

Today, Samsung is currently shipping over 21 models of Internet-connected HDTVs. Market leaders Sony and Samsung predict that by 2011, over 90% of their HDTVs shipped will include Internet connectivity. With over 25M HDTVs bought by consumers a year in the US alone, this is one of the fast growing and significant product transformations occurring in any technology category.
